UNIC Manama and partners organized a two-day conference for Psychology in Salalah


UNIC Manama, in cooperation with Trabat Conference Center and the Research Council, organized a two-day Conference for Psychology in Salalah on the 29th July 2018 within the activities of Salalah Tourism Festival. The conference focuses on mental disorders, adolescence problems & parenting as well as addiction and the latest methods of Psychotherapy. In his speech, UNIC Manama Director stressed the importance of the Universal Health Coverage as recommended by the World Health Organization. 

UNIC Manama celebrated Nelson Mandela International Day


UNIC Manama with the cooperation of Mashq Gallery celebrated Nelson Mandela International day and his centenary. The event, which took place on Wednesday 18 July 2018, emphasizes on the importance of co-existence and tolerance. It included speeches delivered by UN Bahrain and the Pastor of Bahrain’s National Evangelical Church. An exhibition of Mandela’s paintings as well as live painting of Mandela’s portrait took place while musicians performed pieces that reflected Mandela’s distinctive and outstanding character. Diplomats, UN representatives, intellectuals, musicians, artists and religious representatives attended the event.

The exhibition of Nelson Mandela’s paintings continued at Mashq Gallery until the 31st July 2018.  People from diverse backgrounds visited the exhibition and the gallery was open to the public free of charge. The artworks were painted by local volunteers and they were generally  well perceived in the local media.

UNIC Manama, UN Environment and Partners Celebrate World Environment Day


UNIC Manama, UN Environment Regional Office for West Asia, Indian Embassy and others celebrated World Environment Day on 6 June 2018 at City Center Bahrain as well as in several private schools in Manama. The theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” aimed to raise awareness among children of the environmental threat of plastics. Activities included face painting, competitions and gift distributions. At the Indian School, hundreds of students sworn to protect the environment and refuse to use whatever not reusable.

SDG’s training for journalists and government spokespersons by UNIC Manama Director

The Director of the United Nations Information Center in Manama participated in a three-day training for the journalists as well as the Bahraini Government Spokespersons. The event took place in the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel in Manama on the 27th May 2018. During the training, Mr. Aldarabi gave 2 Power Point Presentations about the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the United Nations agenda by 2030.

UNIC Manama and the Ministry of Interior in Bahrain launched an awareness campaign to educate public on the deadly consequences of tobacco

The United Nations Information Center in Manama  and the Ministry of Interior in Bahrain launched an awareness campaign to educate public on the deadly consequences of tobacco use and give tips to help smokers to quit this practice. The campaign took place on 20 May 2018 and it aims to raise awareness on the link between tobacco and heart related diseases, including stroke, which are among the world’s leading causes of death. Field visits were conducted by volunteers who highlighted the risk of tobacco use on health.

UNIC Manama and the Palestinian Embassy organized an event to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Palestinian Crisis

UNIC Manama organized in cooperation with the Palestinian Embassy in the Kingdom of Bahrain an event on the 15th May 2018 at the UN House to commemorate the 70th anniversary of 1948 War & subsequent uprooting and mass displacement of Palestinians and in support of The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees who is confronted with an increased demand for services resulting from a growth in the number of registered Palestine refugees.

UNIC Manama, with the cooperation of the Ministry of Interior in Bahrain launched a campaign entitled: “Social Stigma associated with Mental Diseases”

UNIC Manama and the Ministry of Interior in Bahrain launched a Campaign to end Stigma associated with Mental Health Diseases. the campaign which took place on 14 May 2018, meant to ensure healthy lives and promote the well-being for all at all ages by eliminating any discrimination against those with psychological illnesses and mental disturbances. The campaign stressed the importance of ending Social Stigma associated with Mental Health and the consequences of Stigmatization for people with mental disorders.
